Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle attends Sheriff's Salute event in Jones County

Georgia sheriffs and dignitaries from all over the state made their way to Jones County last week for the fifth annual Salute to Georgia Sheriffs.

The event took place Sept. 21 at the Walnut Creek Shooting Preserve, courtesy of Brother Stewart, and was hosted by Sheriff Butch Reece and the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

The meal was sponsored by Sysco Food Services and local sponsors, so it costs the county nothing. Jones County Sheriff’s Department personnel donate their time to cook, prepare and serve the food. They also set up, clean up and park cars.

This year’s honoree was the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Sheriff of the Year, Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese, and the keynote speaker was Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle. Attendees included Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harris Hines, who gave the blessing for the meal.
