Macon man tests new bypass at 100 mph

A high-speed pursuit that started on Gray’s new bypass ended with the arrest of a Macon man on multiple charges.

James Thomas Watkins, 38, was arrested Jan. 6 and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute; possession of marijuana with intent; possession of burglary tools; possession of Xanax; and fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement.

Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy Marty Brownlee said he was sitting on Eatonton Highway when his tag reader alerted to an active Jones County warrant for possession of meth. He said, when he attempted a traffic stop, the driver of the Nissan Altima failed to yield and fled.
