Newest judge issues rulings in Jones County

The newest Superior Court judge in the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit spent her first full day on the bench in Jones County last week.

Superior Court Judge Amanda Petty was elected May 24, 2016, and was sworn into office Dec. 16. While in law school, Petty worked as a law clerk for Superior Court Judge Hugh Wingfield, and it was his position she filled following her election.

Like her predecessor, Petty’s judicial office is located in the Jones County Courthouse.

Wingfield announced his retirement early in 2016, and Petty was one of three to compete in the May 24 election for the post. The election was the first time in recent memory that a Superior Court Judge was elected to the position. Most positions were appointed by the governor.
