Police working to connect stolen items to original owners after arresting suspect

A man who was observed carrying a five-gallon bucket filled with frozen food was charged with not only the theft of the food but several other crimes.

Steven Pitts was arrested June 22 and has been charged with a total of four counts of burglary. Maj. Chris Williams with the Gray Police Department said he is reviewing previous theft cases and expects there may be more charges coming.

Williams said a search of Pitts’s bedroom revealed stolen items from incidents going back to Dec. 16. Chief Adam Lowe said the items include fishing poles, some of which appear to be handmade.

The major said most of the stolen items appear to have been taken from garages, sheds and automobiles. The Gray Police Department is asking anyone who thinks some of the items may be theirs to contact the department at 986-5554.
