RESULTS: Gordon wins District 1 BOE seat; TSPLOST fails in Jones, region

Mike Gordon defeated incumbent Ken Hamilton 719-426 Tuesday night to win a seat on the Jones County Board of Education. The office is non-partisan, which put the contest on the May 22 ballot, but Gordon will not take office until 2019.

The T-SPLOST failed again in Jones County, and just like in 2012, also failed in the region. In Jones, the measure was voted down 1,819 yes to 2,027 no. In the Middle Georgia Region, the T-SPLOST failed with 29,748 yes votes to 31,024 no.

In the State Representative race for District 144, which includes part of Jones County, the field was crowded with three Republicans and four Democrats. In Jones County, Republican Trey Ennis earned the most votes with 248. Democrat Jessica Walden won the most votes in her primary with 133.

For all of District 144, Danny Mathis won the Republican primary with 63.64 percent of the vote and will go on to the November general election. In the Democratic Primary, Jessica Walden, 33.99 percent, will face Gregory D. Odoms, 28.6 percent, in a runoff election July 24. The last day to register to vote in the runoff is April 24.
