Two department heads gone after called meeting

At the conclusion of a called meeting of the Jones County Board of Commissioners last week, the county was down two department heads.

The July 26 meeting was called to order by Board Chairman Chris Weidner. All five commissioners were in attendance, including Commissioner Sam Kitchens, who was present via teleconference.

The members went into closed session immediately after the 6 p.m. meeting was called to order, and the meeting reopened 30 minutes later.

The first order of business was a motion by Commissioner Tommy Robinson.

“I make a motion to terminate the employment of Water Superintendent Freddie Wiggins, effective immediately, in the best interest of the water department,” the commissioner said. The motion passed with a vote of 4-1 with Commissioner Jonathan Pitts voting in opposition.
