Sophomore Laney Doster has been named Class 5A runner of the week by Georgia MileSplit.
She finished fourth to lead the Lady Hounds to a 13th place finish, and junior Daniel Hicks finished 85th to lead the Greyhounds to a 21st place finish last Saturday in the AT&T Starr’s Mill Panther cross-country meet at Heritage Church in Fayetteville.
There were 186 runners and 22 teams in the girls’ 5K race, and 253 runners and 29 teams in the boys’ field.
Woodstock senior Brynne Sumner was the individual girls’ winner, with a time of 18:32.44. Auburn took the team title.
East Coweta junior Kyle Harkbus finished in 15:58.40 to win the boys’ race. Starr’s Mill took the team title.
Doster ran a 19:16.09 for the Jones County girls. She was followed by junior Lu Woolfolk, 63rd at 22:58.95; sophomore Haley Smith, 79th at 23:27.13; and sophomore Sydney Bowman, 133rd at 25:20.18. For the Jones County boys, Hicks finished in 18:31.28. He was followed by senior Eli Boland, 87th at 18:34.44; sophomore Chandler Nunnemaker, 119th at 19:16.02; and sophomore Bailey Taylor, 149th at 19:44.67.
Jones County runs next at Warner Robins on Sept. 11. The annual Greyhound Invitational is set for Saturday, Sept. 15, at 8 a.m.
