Dames Ferry Elementary School held their Christmas Lighting event recently, showing off the lights they leave on until after Christmas to put the Jones County community into the holiday spirit.
Gracie Cummings, first grade teacher at Dames Ferry, said she was excited for the event and for everyone to see the lights. She said she hopes everyone had a great time.
“This is the second year we’ve done our Christmas Lighting event, where we officially turn on our Christmas light display for the Jones County community to see,” she said. “The kids got to make Christmas cards, Christmas ornaments, see Santa Claus and drink hot cocoa to get into the holiday spirit with their family and friends.”
She said the Christmas Lighting event was important for Dames Ferry Elementary School to participate in because it got families into the school. She said it helped everyone get into the Christmas mood. She said families enjoy seeing the school bring Christmas magic alive and do fun things with the students.
Zuri Reid, a fourthgrade student at Dames Ferry, said the Christmas Lighting event was important, because everyone had a chance to be with their family and friends to celebrate the holiday season. She said her favorite thing was being able to see and do everything at Dames Ferry Elementary School.
“We did a Christmas celebration with cheerleaders and the choir helping everyone get into the Christmas spirit. I like the Christmas lights, because they are all different colors and different Christmas stuff.
It’s important to spend Christmas time with your family,” Reid said.
The first-grade teacher said her favorite thing about the event was setting everything up for the students and community to participate in. She said she really wanted the evening to be a fullblown event this year for everyone to enjoy.
Cummings said anyone can come by and see the Christmas lights on display outside of the school, since they will be on in the evenings after dark. She said they are there for the entire community to enjoy, not just families who live nearby.
“The students were so excited. They loved seeing Santa come in, and they enjoyed seeing all of the lights and displays we put together for the holiday season,” Cummings said. “They really enjoy this time of year and the Christmas magic.”
