The Jones County News salutes the local Veteran of the Week

Phillip McNeal is the local veteran of the week. He served in the U.S. Navy from 19891997. His primary specialty was as an S-3A system organizational maintenance technician and a P-3 system organizational maintenance technician. He received the following medals: Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with two Bronze Stars), Good Conduct Medal (with one Bronze Star), Navy Battle “E” Ribbon (with two Silver “Es”), Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and National Defense Medal. Phil honorably served his country with the Navy before enlisting with the Georgia Air National Guard, where he worked as a full-time crew chief civilian technician. He deployed on several occasions in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

A Mother’s Day gift we won’t forget

Mother’s Day is a day I have never really reflected much on until now, because I never thought it would happen for me. I just celebrated my first Mother’s Day with my beautiful baby girl, but it was a struggle to get to this day.

BOC approves T-SPLOST list, hears update on cemetery

Jones County Commissioners considered zoning items and got an update on the county’s indigent cemetery and fire and ambulance coverage during a long first Tuesday business meeting. Board Chairman Chris Weidner began the May 7 meeting by leading the opening prayer and pledge.
