Ellie Tropauer a student teacher with Carrie Chastain’s class at Jones County High School and her class designed and implemented a playground communication board as part of a service-learning project for Gray Elementary School. Playground communication boards are an effective way to allow children of all abilities to communicate and promote public awareness of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). The board includes verbs, greetings, playground equipment, basic needs symbols, questions, feelings in addition to letters and numbers. To create this board, we painted 4x4 canvases that were then placed together as tiles. Once the board was finished, we brought it to the elementary school on March 28.
