The Kiwanis Club of Jones County elected Charles Newberry to serve as President for the year 2023-24. Newberry previously served from 2005-2006. Also elected are President Elect, Darrell Partee; Vice President, Joe Briley, Jr.; Secretary, Wayne Garrett; Richard Epps, Treasurer; Durrett Childs, Immediate Past President; Directors,, Bill Goodman, Bob Lazenby, Bob Morgan, Bonnie Parrish, and Sara Wood.
The officers were installed by the new Lt.
Governor for Division 9, Durrett Childs, who is a member of the Jones County club. Also in attendance was our new Kiwanis Governor for the State of Georgia, Brent Leslie, who is also a member of the local club. Governor Leslie addressed the club at the end of the installation ceremony.
The organizers of the banquet surprised President Newberry by inviting family members and having his grandson, Nate, pin his president’s pin on his lapel. Jones County Kiwanis Club is proud and honored to have two of their members, Leslie and Childs, serving as the Governor and a Lt. Governor of Kiwanis.
This is a rare distinction for a club. Jones County Kiwanis Club was chartered on January 1, 1935 and has existed continuously since then. The club has sponsored Scout Troop 485 for much of that time.
It has sponsored the STAR Student Teacher program in Jones County since its inception in 1959. Kiwanis annually supports numerous children’s charities and child related projects. Pictured above are the new officers, left to right, front row: Gov.
