COMMUNITY EVENT
The Not-So Scary Grayberry Spectacular, a free community wide Halloween event, will be Oct. 22 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in downtown Gray, giving the community the spookiness of the season in a safe, family friendly environment.
Hannah Foval, coordinator of the event and children’s minister for First Baptist Church, said she’s excited for the event. She said First Baptist Church in Gray, Gray United Methodist Church, Main Street Gray, and the Jones County Chamber of Commerce are putting on the Spectacular. She said she could not have put the event together without all of them working together on it.
“We are planning a giant event for the community of Gray, and we are closing off West Clinton Street from around Zaxby’s to the railroad tracks,” she said. “The Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular is a fun event for the community where families can come together, and it also helps to support our local businesses.”
She said people have expressed how excited they are to have the big Halloween event in town and have said they are ready for that afternoon. She said they have 90 trunks signed up so far, and now she said people are on the waitlist, since they had such a positive response of people wanting to participate.
“This event is important for the community, because it’s a time to gather and be outside right here at the end of COVID19. It’s a fun, safe environment for the community, and it helps support our community as a whole,” Foval said.
The coordinator said parking for the event will be at the First Baptist Church parking lot, the Butler Hall parking lot, Gray United Methodist Church parking lot, and the W.E. Knox Civic Center parking lot.
“People are so excited, and everyone is helping out. The kids are excited for candy since we have so much of it,” she said. “We want people to come out to see what we’ve done, to meet new people, support the community, and have fun. There will be lots of things to do.”
Foval said there will be various food trucks at the event people can purchase food from, inflatables for the children, trucks and vehicles for children to see, trunk or treating, face painting, and princesses. She said the streets will be blocked off for the event by 2:30 p.m.
She said the event is for all ages, and children can wear their Halloween costumes to the event.
She said she can’t wait to see everyone out at the Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular, and she hopes everyone enjoys themselves.
“My favorite thing about the Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular is sorting the candy and seeing how fast people have signed up for trunks so far,” she said. “We had 90 trunks by Oct. 1, so I think that shows the excitement for this event. We’ve never had that before, and I’m just really excited for this event myself.”
