“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.“ (Jn 10:11) In John chapter 10, Jesus speaks of Himself as the Good Shepherd, the shepherd of Psalm 23. A good shepherd takes care of the sheep, and Jesus takes care of His sheep, those of us who are saved.
The good shepherd leads his sheep. They follow where he goes and he will not lead them astray. He takes them to the green grass and still waters of Psalm 23. With his rod, the good shepherd protects his sheep from danger, and with his staff, he keeps his sheep from straying from the flock.
And the sheep know his voice. They know their shepherd. They will not follow anyone else. They are tuned in to his voice only.
And the Good Shepherd will lay down His life for the sheep. Jesus did just that at the cross. Follow your Good Shepherd and let Him lead you to the places of green pastures and still waters. Even when we must walk through dark valleys, Jesus, our Good Shepherd, will be with us every step of the way. Keep tuned in to His voice.
