“the offense of the cross” (Gal 5:11) The cross is offensive to the pride of a sinful heart.
Pride is the sin that God seems to hate the most because it convinces people they don’t need God, that they can be their own God, just as good and great as God. To come to Jesus you must humble yourself and cast off any self pride.
Pride lies to us. And the devil uses pride’s lies to keep people from being saved. Repent means to admit Jesus is right and you are wrong.
Repentance requires humbleness and recognition of sin. But pride says you have no sin (or no sin worth repenting of), nothing to regret.
Yet, unless you repent and forsake that pride--if you die without being saved--you will have an eternity of regret, with being unsaved your biggest regret.
The cross may offend you but get over it. It’s better to suffer your pride being temporarily offended than to suffer the flames of Hell for eternity.
Come to Jesus and be saved. He loves you and went to that offending cross for you. Throw off that deceitful pride and kneel at the redeeming cross.
