The Jones County News salutes the local Veteran of the Week Frank H. Childs, Sr. enlisted in the US Navy shortly after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in Dec. 1941. He served on the USS John W. Weeks a Sumner Class Destroyer. The crew saw active duty in the closing months of World War II.

THIS WEEK & BEYOND Plentitude Baptist Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat Plentitude Baptist Church, 145 Plentitude Church Road, Gray, will have a Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 29, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will also host a trunk-or-treat on Halloween night, Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

County thanks Coulters as pioneering first responders

Bobby and Joyce Coulter were honored twice this month having been named Citizens of the Month for October by the Jones County Sheriff’s Office and honored with a proclamation by the Jones County Commissioners at their Oct. 4 board meeting. The Oct.

Ed Barbee is the local Veteran of the Week. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1962 and took his basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.
