BOE applauds state of the school reports

BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Jones County Board of Education met a week early for their October meeting due to the school system’s fall break.

The Oct. 3 meeting was called to order by Chairman Ginger Bailey. In her chairman’s report, Bailey talked about Homecoming the previous week and the school visits and presentations of principals and administrators Sept. 18-19.

The chairman said it was a very productive two days. She said principals talked about where the schools are and where they are headed.

Bailey said new math has been a challenge. She noted the standards are not new but are being taught in a different way. The chairman added that the state is not holding districts accountable for math test scores this year.

Bailey said Jones County has some of the best teachers and administrators in the state and emphasized that, no matter their position, everyone working in the schools plays a part in children’s lives.

In his report, School Superintendent Charles Lundy said principals and their leadership teams did an excellent job with their State of the Schools reports.

He said he and board members were given a snapshot of where each school is and its journey toward student academic success.

Lundy said all the homecoming activities were a resounding success.

Lundy added that the City of Gray Fire Department would be practicing on campus for training in the parking lot and maybe in an office area. He said, if they need to practice entering a facility, they will contact Raymond Braziel.
