Both parties arrested in two-way domestic dispute

When domestic abuse turns physical it can be a two-way street between parties and sometimes both parties are charged.

That is the case with 911 calls that were received by both individuals involved in an April 21 incident that resulted in a shooting.

Jones County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Kenny Gleaton said Jamie Hunter was arrested April 25 and charged with misdemeanor battery family violence. Alex Hunter, who was actually the victim in the shooting, was arrested April 28 on the same charge.

Gleaton said Alex Hunter was the first to report the incident. He called the Jones County Sheriff’s Office to report that he had been shot by his wife. The investigator said EMS met Hunter on the road, treated him, then transported him to the hospital.

Gleaton said the wound was to his cheek and was not life threatening.

He said Jamie Hunter also called the JCSO to report the domestic dispute. The investigator said the couple is married but keep separate residences. He said the altercation took place at her residence on Jones Mill Circle.

“It was evident there was a physical altercation, and at some point, Ms. Hunter discharged a firearm and Mr. Hunter was hit,” the investigator said. “He was able to drive away.”

Gleaton said no charges have been filed in the shooting, which remains under investigation.

“At this point, we haven’t determined if it was a justified shooting,” he said.

The investigator went on to say that a home surveillance system outside of the home was the reason it was determined both parties physically assaulted each other and why they were both charged.
