Burglary suspects nabbed, drug charges added

Deiadre Jackson, 42, and Samantha Shamar Thomas, 33, were arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and burglary in the first degree the day after the burglary of a Jones County residence occurred.

The pair are suspects in the crime that took place on Curtis James Road June 6, and the date of their arrest was June 7. Thomas was also charged with a probation violation.

A report of the incident leading to the arrests of Jackson and Thomas by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Anna Amerson stated she was dispatched to a residence on Curtis James Road in reference to a possible burglary. The deputy said, when she arrived at the scene, JCSO Investigator Barron Hall was already there.

The complainant told the officers that she left her home at 8 a.m., and when she returned after 11 a.m., noticed her bedroom door was open. The complainant said her jewelry boxes were open and the entire bottom drawer of one of the boxes was missing.

The officer said she was told the drawer was filled with gold jewelry.

The complainant said there were a lot of expensive items in the home that were not touched, and she did not understand why the offenders only took certain things.

When a second resident of the home arrived, he told officers he had left the house about 8:30 a.m. but that time later fluctuated. The resident said a friend he knew only as Dee had been at the home, but he was not left alone in the house.

After looking around the house, the resident said his wallet had been taken out of his room. A PlayStation and a black pressure washer were also discovered to be missing.

The complainant later advised Amerson that she obtained a video of a white car pulling into her driveway around 10 a.m.

In a June 11 phone interview, Hall said the suspects were connected to the burglary through several sources utilized by law enforcement. He said those sources were also the way they were located the day after the burglary.

Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece announced the arrests of Jackson and Thomas in a June 7 Facebook post.

He said Jones County deputies responded to a report of a burglary on Curtis James Road, and investigators were quickly able to identify a vehicle involved.

Reece added that some of the stolen items were located at a pawn shop.

“As a result, Samantha Shamar Thomas and Deiadre Jackson were identified as the persons responsible for the burglary and for pawning the items,” he said.

The sheriff said Hall and JCSO Sgt. Kasey Carr located Thomas and Jackson at a motel that afternoon where they were both taken into custody.

“They were also found to be in possession of methamphetamine at the time of their arrest and are both charged with burglary in the first degree and possession of methamphetamine. Additionally, Thomas had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation. Both remain in custody at the Jones County Jail at this time.”
