Christmas events underway in Gray

Tree decorating contest new this year

It is hard to believe its that time again with Christmas decorations everywhere and annual holiday events in full swing.

Following last weekend’s premier Christmas Market that included ice skating, a first in downtown Gray, and the city’s tree lighting, Gray’s unique lighted Christmas parade takes place Tuesday, Dec. 9, with this year’s theme, “Christmas at the Movies.”

The parade begins at 7 p.m. from Ingles and goes straight up West Clinton Street to the railroad tracks. Jones County’s Masonic Lodge #430 has been in charge of the parade since 2022.

The rain date for the parade is Dec. 11. The Live Drive Thru Nativity, presented by Gray Methodist Church, is on track for Dec. 12-14 with more details about that event in next week’s edition.

The Nativity draws spectators from across middle Georgia.

Keep Jones Beautiful is hosting a Christmas Tree Contest for local businesses that will be held in Carol’s Park. The deadline for trees to be entered is Dec. 12 by 3 p.m.

Keep Jones Beautiful Director Mallory Lunsford said businesses need to submit theirpictures tokeepjonesbeautiful@gmail.com,and voting for the winners will be done via Facebook.

Two winners will be chosen, the Keep Jones Beautiful Award and the Community Favorite Award.

Lunsford said the winner will be announcedon Facebook Dec. 19.

“This is your chance to show off your creativity and help make Carol’s Park shine for the holidays,” she said.
