Driver dies after Highway 49 wreck

The driver in a recent automobile accident in Jones County was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Jerry Franklin Marlow, 62, of Forsyth, died Feb. 7 as the result of injuries sustained in the accident. His cause of death was reported as trauma from blunt force injuries.

The two-vehicle accident took place Feb. 4 at the intersection of Cumslo Road and Highway 49 just before 9 a.m. The accident report by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jarrod Elrod stated Marlow was driving a 1994 Ford pickup and traveling southwest. The other vehicle involved in the accident was a 1998 GMC pickup traveling on Highway 49 toward Milledgeville.

The report states the Ford pickup entered the intersection, apparently not seeing the truck crossing the road toward Pitts Chapel Road. The driver of the GMC was unable to stop or change course to avoid the collision.

The accident was investigated by JCSO Capt. Kenny Allen. The captain said he was informed of Marlow’s death the evening of Feb. 7. He said a passenger in the Ford pickup was transported to the hospital and treated for a possible broken collar bone.

The driver of the GMC pickup was assessed at the accident but went to the hospital by personal vehicle. Allen said his investigation showed Marlow’s passenger and the driver of the GMC were wearing their seatbelts. The deceased was not.
