Driver dies, five injured in wreck

A single vehicle accident on Graham Road July 3 resulted in the death of the driver and injuries to all five passengers.

A report of the fatal collision by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Christopher Dominguez stated he was dispatched to the scene of the accident at 8:30 p.m. He said, when he arrived, several people were on the ground being treated by EMS and rescue service personnel.

The deputy reported the driver of the 2020 Jeep Wrangler, 31-year-old Whitney Leah Davis of Macon, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Dominguez said the Jeep was traveling south on Graham Road when the driver lost control while coming into a curve. He said the Jeep collided with two power poles, breaking both in half, and caused the powerlines to come down.

The deputy said the vehicle overturned, and all the occupants were ejected. The five passengers, ages 2 to 57, were transported to the trauma center for treatment.

JCSO fatality investigator Jeff Robinson said the Jeep struck a mailbox first, then a ditch before hitting the utility poles. He noted that no one in the vehicle was a wearing seatbelt.
