Driving at speeds in excess of 100 mph within the city limits of Gray is never a good idea, but running from law enforcement elevates what could have been a speeding ticket into an arrest.
Cody Daesun Song, 24, was arrested June 6 and charged with reckless driving, speeding in excess of maximum limits and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
A report of the arrest by Gray Police Department Lt. Mitch Lovick stated he was on patrol on Gray Highway and Georgia Highway 11 when he observed a red Corvette traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.
Lovick said the radar tone alerted at 97 mph and climbed to 105 as the Corvette passed going the opposite direction. He said he turned around, crossing over the median but could not get another reading on the vehicle because it was increasing in speed.
The lieutenant called the out the description of the car to dispatch and attempted to catch it. He said GPD Major Chris Williams located the vehicle utilizing a Flock camera and was able to get the tag number.
Lovick said Williams gave him the address on the registration of the vehicle, and he proceeded to the residence. The officer said he found the red Corvette parked in the driveway behind several vehicles, as well as the driver.
Lovick said he asked the driver, identified as Song, why he ran. He said Song told him that he was sorry and made a stupid mistake because he was afraid of getting a ticket.
The lieutenant said Song advised he had a handgun as he was being placed under arrest. Lovick said he placed the handgun in his patrol car for safe keeping.
The officer said the Corvette was searched, and no contraband was found. Song was transported by Lovick to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center.
