Hometown Christmas Market set Saturday

The Christmas season officially begins in the City of Gray with the Main Street Gray Hometown Christmas Market this weekend.

The event begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 30 and will continue until 5 p.m. right in the middle of Downtown Gray. West Clinton Street will be closed from the railroad tracks to the courthouse.

Main Street Director Ashley Robinson said the Christmas Market is presented by Morris Bank and has more than 110 arts and crafts vendors, which is in addition to the city’s downtown retail stores and restaurants.

She said vendors will be along West Clinton Street, and there will also be vendors inside of Butler Hall.

Robinson added that food trucks will line Atlanta Road with a huge variety of delicious menu items.

The director said Santa will be on the stage of the Terrace on Madison for photos, which is a new location for him.

It is rumored that the Grinch is planning to once again crash the party.

The outdoor match by the Jones County High School Varsity Wrestling Team was a big hit last year, and they will be back Saturday. The contest is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. this year against the team from Dublin.

Robinson said there will be a ceremonial lighting of Gray’s Christmas Tree at 6 p.m., complete with carolers, and this year’s tree-lighting event will include a special surprise.

The public is invited to join the celebration to get started on Christmas shopping with unique gift ideas and get into the spirit of the holidays.
