A Jones County man is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, following shots being fired at his residence.
Garrik Hogan, 36, was arrested Nov. 26 and charged with aggravated assault, no insurance, expired registration, operating unauthorized vehicle with blue lights, terroristic threats and acts, discharge of firearms on or near public highway or street, and first-degree criminal damage to property.
A report of the incidents leading to Hogan’s arrest by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Christopher Dominguez states he was dispatched to a convenience store Nov. 23 to meet with two individuals reporting an assault. The complainants told the deputy Hogan shot at their vehicle as they were driving away from the Joycliff Road residence. Dominguez asked the circumstances that led up to the shooting, and the female complainant told him she had been staying at the home but decided to leave that morning.
She called for a ride, and Hogan objected. The complainant said she thought the offender had gone back to sleep, but when she was walking to the truck picking her up, Hogan came out of his door loading his shotgun.
As they drove away, the offender fired two rounds. The complainants continued driving but soon realized the back left tire had gone flat. After pulling into a gas station, Hogan appeared and confronted them.
The complainants said the offender continued to harass them until he realized they had called 911.
The deputy said after taking the statements, he watched the camera footage from the station, and it verified the statements of the complainants.
Dominguez said Deputy Nolan Sullivan also responded. He later went to the address given by the complainant and found the same vehicle that was seen on the gas station footage. The license plate came back to Hogan.
Investigators went to the offender’s residence, but no one came to the door, and the decision was made to put out warrants for Hogan’s arrest.
Pictures were taken of the truck with the flat tire before it was replaced. A hole was found in the sidewall of the tire, which was placed in evidence. The complainants were then escorted from the area and warrants secured for Hogan.
Arrest
A report of the Nov. 26 arrest of Hogan by JCSO Deputy Jeffrey Robinson stated he was advised by Lt. Gerry Nelson to move to the area of Joycliff Road to make contact with Hogan in reference to the active warrants.
Officers were watching the house, and the suspect’s Suburban was seen leaving the residence. Robinson said he spotted the vehicle and turned on his blue lights to conduct a traffic stop. He said the vehicle turned right on Highway 49 and pulled over just inside Bibb County.
The officer said with the assistance of Deputy Chris Shurley, Hogan was removed from the Suburban and taken into custody. The vehicle was subsequently checked for weapons.
Robinson said a handgun was found between the driver’s front seat and console, a .308-caliber rifle was found in the rear of the vehicle and a PSE compound bow was in the front seat. In addition to the weapons, the deputy noted the Suburban had active flashing blue light bars in the dash facing toward traffic.
The deputy said all the weapons were removed, and Hogan was transported to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center. A wrecker was called to tow the vehicle to the JCSO impound yard.
