Jones County Board of Commissioners had a short business session with the approval of bids for the next phases of the county’s project to extend water to more areas of the county the biggest agenda item.
The March 3 meeting was called to order by Chairman Chris Weidner. The opening prayer and pledge were led by Tim Ingram of Ingram and Associates.
Zoning Officer Tim Pitrowski presented the only Planning and Zoning item to board members. The request was for a second dwelling on a property less than 10 acres in size on Five Points Road.
The petitioner said the request was to provide a home for an aging family member. Commissioner Sam Kitchens made the motion to approve the request, and the motion passed unanimously.
New Business
Ingram presented bids for the Highway 49 Phase 3 project. He made the recommendation to award the bid to Ohmshiv Construction, the lowest of eight bidders. The bid was in the amount of $3,143,468. Ingram also recommended the board accept the alternative bid that included iron pipes in lieu of the PVC water main, bringing the total cost to $6,112,158.
Following a discussion of the project, Commissioner Daylon Martin made the motion to approve the bid. The motion passed unanimously.
Ingram then presented bids for the Highway 49 Phase 4 Graham Road. He recommended the lowest of seven bidders, A Vintage Soul LLC, in the amount of $127,939. Following a discussion of the project, Kitchens made the motion to approve.
Ingram noted that at the beginning of this project pipe cost $150 a foot and is now at $80.
There was no Old Business, and Weidner asked for comments from department heads. Public Works Director Jerry Arnold gave an update on patching being done on New Clinton Road. He added work was being done to correct drainage problems in Haddock.
“We are waiting for dry weather to start work on dirt roads,” Arnold said.
