Sept. 5

Eluding an officer

Officer Holloway was patrolling the area of Bill Conn Pkwy. when he observed a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. Holloway checked and confirmed the driver was going 65 MPH in a 45-MPH speed zone by using his in-car radar. At that time, Holloway activated his emergency blue lights and turned around but briefly lost sight of the vehicle and turned his blue lights off. The officer was attempting to locate the vehicle and turned onto Capps Dr. then on to Howard Ct.

As Holloway was turning right on Howard Ct., he observed the vehicle had just turned around in the culde- sac. The officer again activated his blue lights and blocked the vehicle with the front of his patrol car. Holloway made contact with the female driver and had her step out of her vehicle. The officer asked the female driver why she turned into the neighborhood and the female seemed to become very nervous and stated that she was turning around because she left her work ID at home. Based on Holloway’s training and experience in his opinion the female was attempting to elude him. The female had passed other places she could have turned around other than a neighborhood cul-de-sac.

The female was placed in custody and handcuffed in front due to the fact she was pregnant and then placed in the rear of Holloway’s patrol vehicle. Holloway called the next available wrecker to remove the vehicle from the stop then conducted a routine vehicle search.

The female driver was transported to the Jones County LEC without incident and issued a citation for speeding, 64/45, and was also issued a warrant for misdemeanor fleeing and attempting to elude an officer.

Sept. 9

Obstruction of law enforcement officer

Dep. Dominguez was coming off a traffic stop when he ran the license plate of a vehicle for a routine check through GCIC. The information came back to show the tag was registered to a completely different vehicle than the vehicle bearing the tag. Dominguez could not see the driver of the vehicle at that time, so he positioned his patrol vehicle down the street where he could continue to observe the vehicle. Dominguez observed a male subject enter the driver’s seat of the vehicle and pulled out of a parking lot turning on Joycliff Terrace. The deputy pulled out behind the vehicle as it was leaving a business and he attempted to get behind it. Dominguez turned on Joycliff Terrace but was unable to immediately locate the vehicle. The deputy then turned on Bramble Rd. and as he looked towards Old Stagecoach Rd. he saw the vehicle traveling northbound on Old Stagecoach Rd. Dominguez immediately proceeded onto New Clinton Rd. and turned onto Old Stagecoach Rd. As the deputy came around the curve, he observed the vehicle pulling into a driveway. Dominguez activated his emergency blue lights and also turned in the driveway. The deputy saw the same male subject that he observed getting in the driver seat of the vehicle and activated his siren. When the deputy activated his siren to try to get the male subject’s attention, the male subject looked at the deputy and began running away. Dominguez got out of his vehicle and verbally called to the male subject before pursing him on foot. The deputy followed the male subject around the rear of the residence but was unable to locate him. Dominguez notified Dispatch that he had attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene on foot. While at the scene, Dominguez found a pair of sandals near the wood line of the residence. The deputy requested Corp. Ribeiro to respond to the scene with his tracking K9 Jones. Additional units also responded to the area to establish a perimeter. Dominguez advised the responding units with a description of the male subject and the direction he was running. Once on the scene, Corp.

Ribeiro arrived with K9 Jones and gave him the sandals found in order for the K9 to track the subject. The tracking path was interrupted due to encountering another dog. During the interruption, dispatch advised over the radio that a female had called and reported seeing a strange man with no shirt and shoes running across her yard. The female had seen the male on her security camera system. Dispatch gave the deputy the area where the suspect had been seen by the female and deputies responded to the location. Deputies were eventually able to intercept the male subject and placed him under arrest. Dep. Braziel transported the male subject back to Dep. Dominguez’s location so the deputy could positively verify that was indeed the male subject he saw driving the vehicle then fleeing from him. The male subject was identified via his GA driver’s license.

Dominguez read the male his Miranda Rights and the male stated he understood his rights and agreed to answer questions. The deputy asked the male subject why he ran from him. The male subject told the deputy that he panicked and then apologized to the deputy. Dominguez showed the male subject the sandals he had found, and the male stated they did belong to him. The male subject was placed in Dominguez’s patrol vehicle and transported to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. During the transport the male subject stated that he had seen the deputy behind him in the vehicle, but he was hoping the deputy did not see him and would just pass him by once he turned in the driveway. The male subject continued by saying that he panicked when he saw the deputy activated his emergency blue lights and heard the siren and that caused him to run. The male subject continued to apologize to the deputy several times during the transport to the Sheriff’s Office. Once at the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the male subject was turned over to jail staff. The male was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement and was also issued citations for expired registration and use/display of license plate with intent to conceal.
