Three men from Athens and one with a Camilla address are spending time in the Jones County jail following their recent arrests.
The men were taken in custody Sept. 5 after a traffic stop that was triggered by the suspects’ car being identified by a Flock camera in response to a “be on the lookout alert” report.
Jones County Sheriff Deputy Danilo Ribiero stated in his report of the arrests that he was advised of a BOLO for the 2024 Nissan Altima that included the information that the vehicle was being driven by a shooting suspect out of Athens-Clarke County.
The deputy said dispatch informed him warrants were currently being obtained on the vehicle that was captured by Flock cameras coming into Jones County. He said information about a chrome frame on the license plate and a sticker on the bottom side of the trunk were also via the cameras.
Ribiero said the vehicle passed him on Eatonton Highway going toward Gray. He turned around and got behind it with JCSO Deputy Christopher Domiguez right behind him. Once the road opened to two lanes, he got moved closer with Domiguez beside him in order to stop traffic.
“Once I activated my blue lights and initiated the traffic stop, the vehicle stopped on the right side of the road,” he said. “I instructed the driver to put his hands out of the window, which he did.”
The driver was asked to get out of the car and turn around to be checked for weapons. The driver was taken into custody without incident. With the assistance of Domiguez and JCSO Deputy Donrielle Steib and under the surveillance of Ribiero armed with a SIG submachine gun. The three remaining occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody, and all four were placed in different patrol cars.
With the suspects out of the vehicle, it was searched. Ribiero said two separate bags identified as marijuana were found inside the vehicle. A Glock 17 .9MM with an extended magazine and ammunition was found on the driver’s side floorboard.
An American Tactical 5.56 pistol with over 40 rounds of .223 ammunition was found on the rear seat.
All four of the men were placed under arrest and subsequently charged.

Baughns, 22, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender and marijuana possession less than an ounce.
• Desmond Bell, 23, was charged with possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies and possession of controlled substance or marijuana.
• Demontrey Keun Kelly, 18, was charged with marijuana possession less than an ounce and misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement officers.
• Jaylon Martivous Martin, 21, was charged with marijuana possession less than an ounce and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender. Baughns, Bell and Martin are from Athens. Kelly gave an address in Camilla.
One of the occupants was also found to be wanted out of Camilla on charges, including felony murder and armed robbery.
Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece said he is very proud of the deputies involved.
“We are doing more training. Unfortunately, we are seeing more of this, and we have to make sure our officers and our community are safe,” he said. “A lot of times, it’s not Grayberry; we can see the big city coming through.”
