HONORING THOSE WHO SERVED
Jones County Veterans are invited to an evening of good food and fellowship sponsored by American Legion Post 142 in Gray.
The event is being held at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at First Baptist Church in Gray and will be catered by Grill Masters of Gray. Legion secretary Ted Stone said they have room for 100 veterans, and reservations are required.
No transportation is no problem and will be provided for those who need it.
A program will be presented by the Jones County Sheriff’s Office and Al Felton, Sixth District Director for the American Legion.
The numbers to call for reservations are Stone, 478-474-4442; Commander Russell Curry, 478-913-6641; and Ronnie Griggs, 478-361-4579.
Reservations are requested to be made by Sept. 27.
The numbers to call to arrange transportation are Gray Memorial Chapel, 478-986-1311, or Hart’s Jones County Chapel, 478-986-4278. Transportation reservations are also requested to be made by Sept. 27.
The dress for the event is casual, and it is free for the veterans. The menu consists of barbecue chicken, baked beans, slaw, a roll, cake and iced tea or coffee.
Stone said the Legion came up with the idea to show their appreciation for the service of the veterans.
He said it is also an opportunity for them to enjoy an evening together to swap old stories and spend time with each other.
“We just wanted to do something to honor our veterans and show them how much they are appreciated,” he said.
The secretary expressed the Legion’s appreciation to First Baptist Church and the community for helping with the appreciation dinner.
