SUPERIOR COURT
A convicted sex offender, who was living in Jones County at the time of his most recent arrest, entered his guilty plea in Superior Court to eight new charges of sexual exploitation of children and one charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Christopher Lee Sorensen was arrested for the new offenses Sept. 26, 2022, and was indicted on the charges Dec. 6.
He was in Jones County Superior Court Feb. 16 to enter his guilty pleas and received 20 years each for seven of the counts of sexual exploitation of children and 10 years for the other. The defendant was also sentenced to 10 years for possession of a firearm.
Count 2 is to run consecutively with count 1, and all other counts are to run concurrently for a total of 30 years with the first 12 years to serve in confinement. The remainder of the sentence is to be served on probation.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections website, Sorensen was convicted of child molestation in Chattahoochee County for a crime that was committed Feb.
5, 2011. He was sentenced to 15 years for the offense and was released from incarceration July 7, 2019.
The report of his Sept.
26, 2022, arrest for the new charges by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. John Humphries states that he responded to a call on Haley Street in reference to a person making suicidal comments.
He said, when he arrived, he found Georgia Department of Community Supervision officers there to make a random home check on Sorensen.
The sergeant was told Sorenson was not at home, but a friend they encountered at the residence was having a mental health crisis, which led to the call for assistance.
Humphries said when Sorensen returned, the DOCS officers spoke with him. The probationer had missed his curfew and informed them of a gun in the home, which was loaded with eight rounds in the magazine. The sergeant said ammunition for the gun was also found.
Humphries said DOCS checked Sorensen’s phone and found photos he should not have of children and other deviant evidence.
He said from what was found, his phone and computer were taken by DOCS and turned over to the sergeant along with the gun.
He said Sorensen was arrested for probation violations and transported to the jail.
An Oct. 3 supplemental report by JCSO Deputy Thomas Sullivan stated he was notified by DOCS about Sorensen’s arrest due to his sex offender status, which Sullivan monitors. He was informed of the probationer’s website searches for pornography and possible communication with a minor on his phone.
Sullivan said he secured search warrants for Sorensen’s phone and laptop.
A Nov. 1 supplement stated that information was back from the phone search. He said the searches revealed eight videos that show a young female nude in each one and four photos of a minor female, nude, getting out of the shower. He said warrants for sexual exploitation of children were taken out for Sorensen’s arrest.
