Newsies Jr. coming this weekend

JONES COUNTY ARTS

It is time to “Carry the Banner” with Jones County Arts’ spring production of Newsies Jr. Come and see the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, the charismatic leader of the newsies of Manhattan. When the pompous and cruel businessman, Joseph Pulitzer, raises the distribution prices of papers at the World newspaper company at the newsies’ expense, Jack rallies together a group of young newsies across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Will a couple of ragtag Davids be able to defeat a local Goliath? Find out if the newsies will be captured and taken to The Refuge, a jail for underaged children, or if they can “Seize the Day” and become the “Kings of New York.”

The performances will be April 21-23 at the W.E. Knox Civic Center. Friday’s and Saturday’s shows begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets will be available for presale at_jonescounty.booktix. com_(credit card only for online purchases) and are available at the door before each performance.

Reserved seating is $15 for all ages, and general admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students.

Newsies Jr. is a musical that features an older cast of pre-teens and teenagers from 6th-12th grades. These kids are talented and thrilled to show off their moves with exciting choreography and a few tricks. Lead actor Aaron Varandoe, who plays Jack Kelly, states, “ Newsies has been a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved. We have an outstanding cast, and everyone gets along great. We are excited to perform and cannot wait to show off our dances and hard work.” You will be impressed with the cast’s skill and dedication and will not want to miss these once-in-a-lifetime performances. A special thanks to Lisa Mullis, director, and Mystee Wilcox, music director, for providing the students of Jones County Arts the opportunity to learn, grow, and perform.
