In both the early morning predawn light and the afternoon, spring practice got underway for the Greyhounds last week. Due to schedule conflicts that may exist for players and coaches, there’s an option for players to practice either in the morning or afternoon for most days of spring practice.
The Greyhounds, who had time on the field Wednesday and Friday of last week, wrap up spring practice May 5 in hosting Veterans in their spring game.
“You’re working on everybody. You’ve got some people moving around to some new spots and that kind of stuff,” Greyhounds head coach Mike Chastain said. “You’re just working on depth and getting everyone ready to go.”
Case in point – the on-field work near the end of Friday morning’s session had the first, second and third team offensive units on the field going against the opposing defense. And they were doing so in the midst of another element of new with multiple new assistants on staff.
During the offseason, Will Conner came aboard as defensive coordinator, Daniel Brinson and Trent Cook arrived to coach the offensive line, Kevin Patterson took the helm at receivers and strength and conditioning with Tavarus Horton as a defensive assistant.
“It’s phenomenal to get those guys here with us and getting in the in the groove of things,” Chastain said.
