Parolee going back to prison for drug, gun charges

SUPERIOR COURT

A Jones County man was sentenced to two years to serve in prison due to new charges he received as a result of a parole violation.

Clinton Wayne Fountain, 45, was in Jones County Superior Court April 13 and entered guilty pleas to charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He received a sentence of five years for the drug possession charge and two years for the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The counts are to run concurrently for a total of five years with the first two years to serve and the remainder of the sentence is to be served on probation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Cara Fiore, and Fountain was represented by defense attorney Keith Fitzgerald. Superior Court Judge Alison Burleson presided over the case.

A report of Fountain’s March 2 arrest by Jones County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Barron Hall states he received information about Fountain, who had an active warrant for a parole violation. The information he received was Fountain’s location and the investigator followed up, accompanied by JCSO Deputy Matthew Dennis. Hall said they went to a mobile home park and when they arrived, he went to the rear of the home, and Dennis went to the front door.

The investigator said he made contact with the resident of the mobile home and asked to see Fountain. He said she told him she was not sure if the parolee was there.

Hall said he asked her to let Dennis in the front door and they started a search of the home. He said Dennis found Fountain hiding in the bedroom closet, and he was taken into custody.

Hall said while they were looking for Fountain, he observed a pistol lying in plain view on the nightstand next to the bed. He said the pistol was retrieved and secured for safety, and he asked if there was anything else in the bedroom.

Fountain told him about a red bag containing methamphetamine. The investigator said the resident of the home retrieved it and handed it over to him.

Hall said Fountain was transported to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, and warrants were secured for his arrest on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm during a felony.
