Last week’s fire at a residence on Sand Creek Trail took the life of the property owner with the cause of the blaze remaining undetermined.
Jones County Fire Chief Don Graham reported the victim was identified as 64-year-old Brenda Jo Kelly.
The chief stated in a press release that fire units responded to the structure fire at approximately 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16. He said the singlestory modular dwelling was 60 percent engulfed in flames, and upon arrival firefighters ascertained that there was possibly an occupant inside the residence.
Graham said fire personnel immediately engaged in an offensive fire fight while performing an aggressive search and rescue operation for victims. He said firefighters were able to quickly knock the fire down and gain control of the blaze.
“Firefighters located a female victim on the floor in the master bathroom of the residence. The victim was removed from the dwelling to a safe area to obtain signs of life,” he said.
The chief said the victim had sadly perished.He said the victim was retired and was living alone.
Graham said the Jones County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office were notified to assist.
The chief added that Georgia Fire Marshall’s Office was also notified, and the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
