The Jones County High School Greyhound Battalion traveled to the state capitol for a look at how state government works and to visit nearby attractions.
More than 850 JROTC cadets from across the state joined the 14 cadets from JCHS March 6 for a day at the capitol. The cadets took pictures with other units and met their State Sen. Rick Williams and State House Rep. Dale Washburn.
Cadet Lt. Col. Isaiah Denis said he enjoyed being invited to the state capitol not simply as students, but as cadets. He said it is so important for student leaders to enrich themselves and be familiar with government and how it all works.
Denis said there is no doubt that JCHS cadets are some of the greatest in the state. He added that it is awesome to know that state leaders recognize the leadership and the motivation of cadets so much that they invited 850 of them to experience and learn about the workings and the opportunities in government.
The lieutenant commander said was a nice experience and it is his hope that the great JCHS battalion is invited back for years to come.
The cadets also toured the capitol, including the fourthfloor museum, the Veterans’ Hall of Fame and the House and Senate floors. They were also given an opportunity by college ROTC units, such as Georgia Tech and University of North Georgia, to explore their future options as they consider college and military service opportunities.
Cadet Sgt. Katheryn-Brylee Curtis said she appreciated the entire experience.
“I enjoyed it because I met new people. I also got to meet with important people like Sen. Williams and Rep. Washburn. I also got to go to World of Coke, and I really love Coke,” she said.
