Trafficking, child molestation among 15 indictments

A Jones County Grand Jury brought back true bills of indictment on 15 out of 16 cases they were presented.

Grand jurors convened Oct. 1 at the Government Center and were presented the cases by Ocmulgee Circuit District Attorney Wright Barksdale, Assistant District Attorney Cara Fiore, Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece, JCSO deputies, Gray Police Chief Adam Lowe and officers with the Gray Police Department.

The charges included the possession and sales of drugs, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement officers, aggravated assault, obstruction of officers, burglary, fraud, cruelty to children and aggravated child molestation.

Billie Michael Corley, Brandon Mock and Clayton MacKenzia Quillian were charged with trafficking in marijuana.

Corley was in Jones County Superior Court Oct. 3, represented by defense attorney Paula Kapiloff, seeking bond. She told the court her client had been in custody since July 24, and at the time he was being tracked by Flock cameras but had no arrest warrant.

“Bibb County wanted them stopped,” she said.

Kapiloff said there were two vehicles involved, and the Georgia State Patrol stopped the other vehicle.

“This was not a Jones County case. He had no ties to Jones County, and nothing was found in his vehicle,” she said.

The attorney said Corley owns a barber shop in Macon and has ties to the community. She said there were no witnesses in the case other than law enforcement and asked for an appropriate bond.

Fiore was the prosecutor in the case and told the court Bibb County was investigating Coley for being a drug dealer.

“They were following him and asked for help,” she said.

Fiore said the deputies were watching two vehicles, and Corley owned them both. The pursuit went to Sparta and Augusta before returning to Jones County. She said 100 pounds of marijuana were found during the traffic stop.

“It was obvious the two vehicles were traveling together,” the ADA said.

She added that Corley was believed to be the ringleader.

Superior Court Judge Alison Burleson presided over the bond hearing. She said she did not believe Corley was a flight risk, but he could not overcome the risk to persons and the community pending his trial.

Bond was denied. A complete list of the Oct. 1 indictments can be found on the open records page of this week’s edition.
