One downtown business is spreading the Christmas cheer in more ways than one.
Cone Crazy on Main is located at 123 W. Clinton St. in Gray and is owned by Paige and Billy Horne. Since opening in August, the ice cream shop has expanded, now selling hot drinks and breakfast until 11 a.m., in addition to ice cream and baked goods.
In an interview last week, Paige announced her newest idea. In the spirit of the giving season, Cone Crazy is starting ‘Scoop It Forward.’
The owner said a customer can buy a scoop of ice cream for a future customer.
“We give them a cup, and they can write ‘this scoop is for a mom of three’ or ‘this scoop is for a grandpa with a baseball hat.’ Just random things like that and when people fitting that description come in, they get the scoop for free,” she said.
The descriptions could be playful and lighthearted, such as if someone is wearing a particular college shirt, name starts with a “B” or inspiring for someone who may be having a tough day.
Paige said the plan is to start it in the spirit of Christmas, but if it does well, it could be continued.
The owner said she came across the idea on TikTok and thought it was a good one.
“I hope it catches on,” she said.
The cup sizes are from one to three scoops and will be displayed on the serving line. Information about Scoop it Forward will also be advertised inside the ice cream shop.
In addition to the Scoops idea, Santa will be visiting Cone Crazy Dec. 14 from 1-5 p.m.
