Auditions for Fiddler on the Roof announced

JONES COUNTY ARTS

Jones County Arts will host auditions for middle and high school students for its spring musical, Fiddler on the Roof Jr.

next week.

The junior musical, based on the Broadway classic, is set in an early twentieth-century Jewish village, following the story of a milkman named Tevye and his five daughters. Amid growing antisemitism in Czarist Russia, Tevye attempts to protect his daughters from a rapidly changing world. Fiddler on the Roof Jr. is a drama with comedic elements, perfect for students who strive to hone their acting, singing, or dancing skills.

Auditions will take place Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m., students in sixth through twelfth grades at the W.E. Knox Civic Center.

Director Lisa Mullis discussed why she selected this musical for Jones County Arts students and what it means to her.

“This musical holds special memories for me as I have performed in the musical twice over the years. The production’s timeless themes of family, tradition, and adaptation to change make it an excellent choice for students to explore and dive into their characters,” the director said.

Mullis talked about how participating in Fiddler on the Roof Jr. can improve students’ musical theater abilities.

“The way the characters face personal and societal struggles offers rich opportunities for emotional depth and growth in performance. I know our cast will live up to this challenge,” Mullis concluded.

Assistant Director Rosie Miles mentioned her excitement for the upcoming production.

“I cannot wait to get started with this show.

I am hoping for a good turnout at auditions for this classic musical. It is not one we often see, so I am excited for the kids and the community to experience it,” Miles said.

Current Jones County Arts members who plan to audition for the musical encourage other students interested in acting and singing to audition for a Jones County Arts production.

Twelfth-grade student Addison Davis discussed the community of Jones County Arts.

“The JCA community is such a welcoming and caring group. Fiddler on the Roof Jr. will be an amazing experience filled with people who care about you. I enjoy being in the productions and love the community it offers,” Davis said.

Sixth-grade student Bristol Bailey also discussed why she enjoys Jones County Arts.

“Jones County Arts is a great local theater to engage in. It is a good place for self-improvement. I encourage other people to join so we can bond with them. It is so amazing to be able to see friendships come together over time.”

Bailey also talked about her experience auditioning.

“The first time I auditioned for a show I was very nervous, but now when I audition for parts I am not as nervous anymore. I am so glad that I tried something new because I have really enjoyed my time with Jones County Arts. I am so excited to try out for this show and expand my theater knowledge,” Bailey concluded.
