The Jones County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest for entering automobile crimes following the report of multiple vehicles incidents in a south Jones County neighborhood.
Quavon Kentae Worthen, 17, was arrested Jan. 31 and charged with three counts of entering automobiles or other motor vehicles with intent to commit theft or felony.
Incident reports of the entering auto crimes were written by JCSO deputies Matthew Dennis and Jarrod Elrod.
A Jan. 31 Facebook post by Sheriff Butch Reece referenced calls received Jan. 27 about vehicles that were broken into on Sun Valley Drive, including a stolen handgun. More calls were received the next morning about crimes on Troutman Drive and Bethune Downs Court, this time involving a stolen vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was located in a wooded area the afternoon of Jan. 28.
Dennis’ Jan. 27 report was about two vehicles that were entered that morning. The report stated that the vehicle was found by its owner with its interior lights on and the trunk ajar. A gun was taken from the car.
It was discovered that a pickup truck in the driveway had also been entered, but nothing was taken.
The Jan. 31 report was about a vehicle that had been entered on Alton Drive. Elrod documented that the passenger door of a truck was found cracked open by the complainant. A bag that had been inside the truck was found in a ditch in front of the home.
The sheriff stated in his post that air tags were attached to bags the stolen firearms were kept in. He said the air tags led deputies to a residence on Horseshoe Drive in Bibb County, which was when they began working with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The Horseshoe Drive residence was searched, but the stolen items were not located. However, a search of the surrounding area located the firearms and air tags behind the residence.
“Deputies spoke with the homeowner and went inside to speak with his 17-year-old grandson, Quavon Worthen. Deputies determined Worthen had been responsible for the vehicle break-ins and took him into custody at that time,” the post stated.
Reece said the case remains active, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Jones County Sheriff’s Office or submit a tip on the JCSO app or website.
“Thanks to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for all their assistance and help getting these weapons off the street and back to their owners,” he said.
