If there was such a thing as a trap game for the Lady Greyhounds, last Tuesday against Eagles Landing was it.
One week after a match against Locust Grove for first place and a week before the final region contest of the season against Ola came last week’s matchup against Eagles Landing.

It didn’t have region-title implications. It did not have the hopes of a state tournament home game at stake like this past Tuesday at Ola did.
But none of those factors impacted the offensive pressure that Jones County was able to dial up in a 5-1 win. That, combined with Friday’s 10-0 road win at McDonough improved the Lady Greyhounds’ record to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in the region. It also set up this past Tuesday’s match against Ola awarding a home field in the first round of the state tournament to the winner.
Emory Sanford lit up the scoreboard against McDonough with seven goals, with two from Daisy Blanton and one being added by Raven Warren, who also had an assist. Blanton and Cari Green added three assists each with Marissa Moore having one helper.
“I’m glad that they took care of business. (Eagles Landing) is a very athletic team, and if you don’t come ready to play, they will take advantage of that an exploit it,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Mikayla Coley said.
The Eagles stalled out near midfield most of the game, and the Lady Greyhounds used that to their advantage, keeping up the offensive pressure to lead and build plenty of offensive cushion in a scoring attack led by Blanton and Sanford as the two combined for five goals, three by Sanford.
“They have some really athletic kids,” Coley said. “We came out pretty sharp in the second half.”
