The Lady Greyhounds have already pulled off one feat not reached in more than 10 years with a the winning of a region tournament title.
Last week, they added another item to that list in knocking off Flowery Branch in the opening round of the state tournament, advancing to the round of 16 for the first time in more than a decade with a 3-2 win.
“This is awesome for the kids and school,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Olivia Hamlin said. “I’m so proud of all the work that they put in.”
In the end, it came down to the No. 1 singles match that lasted more than two hours and resulted in the Lady Hounds’ Lyndsie Hanner having blisters and callouses associated with playing tennis for a long amount of time. That slight pain paled, however, to the glory of victory as Hanner pumped her fist in excitement after taking the three-set victory.
JCHS also got wins from Mallory Herndon at No. 3 singles in two sets in addition to a two-set win at No. 2 doubles by Macie Milholen and Genna Maki with the first set being won on a tiebreaker.
“It was a nail biter. I’m just really proud of Lyndsie and all of the effort that she puts in and the perseverance and poise that she has on the court,” Hamlin said. “She played for two hours and gave it all she had.”
JCHS will host either Perry or Northview in the second round on a date to be determined.
