Robinson, Solomon claim region track titles

The GHSA state track meet may await during the second weekend of May, but two steps are up first order to qualify for this year’s state GHSA Class AAAA meet at East Jackson in Commerce.

One of those came Saturday and Monday in the Region 2-AAAA track meet, where top finishes were needed to advance to the May 3 sectionals.

Both the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds found themselves near the forefront, as Addison Robinson won a region title in the girls 3,200meter run ahead of Lilly Palmer in second place. Both ran times of 11:47.25 and 12:17.07 to sweep first and second. Robinson also took first in the 1,600 meters for two firstplace showings, running 5:17.51 in a race that also saw Palmer take sixth with a time of 5:52.20. In field events, Jaivon Solomon’s 43-6 took first in the triple jump.

There was more to the distance running standout performances for Jones County. Luke Thornton and Tyler Marshall finished third and fourth in the boys 3,200 meters, running times of 10:14.77 and 10:15.24. Timing in seventh with a run of 10:54.20 was Rylan Fuller.

JCHS placed three runners in the top five of the 1,600 meters with Shaun Williams, Luke Thornton and Tyler Marshall taking second, third and fifth with times of 4:33.43, 4:33.54 and 4:34.47. Williams was also fourth in the boys 800 meters, running 2:00.34 with Jordan Norman-Brown taking fifth in the girls 800 meters with a run of 2:35.63.

The Greyhounds also placed second in the 4x800 relay as Ian Borsahole, Clay Lacy, Tyler Marshall and Andrew Marshall ran an 8:16.52.

The Lady Hounds also claimed top placements in field events. A jump of 31-0.50 by Zy’DeAsia Adams took fifth in the triple jump, Angel Dennis was fourth in the discus with a throw of 84-3, and Diamond Sinclair was sixth in the shot put with a 31-3 throw.
