Susan Freeman Eilers

April 1947 – June 2025

Susan Freeman Eilers of Gray, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

Born in Atlanta in April 1947 to Winifred and Sam Freeman, Susan lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her students, and her community.

A beloved mother and grandmother, Susan was a lifelong educator who made a lasting impact in Jones County as the first principal of Clifton Ridge Middle School. Her dedication to learning extended beyond the classroom; she played the piano, cultivated beautiful gardens, and nurtured those around her with quiet strength and endless generosity.

She was the devoted wife of the late William Leonard Eilers (1945– 2019), and their life together was filled with purpose and deep care for their family.

Susan is survived by her three sons; John Fouts and wife Amy of McCaysville, with grandchildren William and Savannah Fouts; Gregory Eilers and wife Ruth of Milledgeville, with grandchildren Henry and Benjamin Eilers; Sam Eilers and wife Heather of Suches.

She is also survived by her siblings; Melinda Sileo of Hapeville, Georgia, Betsy Southerland of Conyers, Georgia, Tim Freeman of Sugar Hill, Georgia.

Susan’s legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
