With only four home football games on the Greyhounds’ schedule this season, broadcasts of the games are even more important for Greyhound fans.
All JCHS football games, both home and away, will be broadcast by Sportsmic. This year marks the company’s third year broadcasting the games for Greyhound fans.
Adam Greene will once again be working with the broadcasts. He is joined by Todd Bailey, who partnered with him in the broadcasts last year. Greene’s love of Greyhound football is the reason there are broadcasts of the games that started in 2018.
In a July 24 interview, Greene, who lives in Atlanta, said he is excited to be back.
“I’m glad to do it again. I’m inspired by the new coach,” he said.
Greene said he had to opportunity to meet Coach Justin Montgomery at the Greyhound golf tournament in June. He said it is going to be exciting to see where the football team goes from here.
The broadcaster said the new schools the Greyhounds will be playing and the different pace of the game with a new coach will be interesting as well as how the community responds.
“I feel rejuvenated,” Greene said. “It’s exciting to see how many people tune in.”
He said he appreciated the success the team had under coach Mike Chastain and expects the program to continue building on that success.
Greene said he especially enjoys coming to home games because he also gets to see family and friends. He said he is lucky he has a job with that flexibility and looks forward to working with Bailey again.
“Todd does a great job; he’s always there with the assist,” he said.
Greene said Bailey is detail oriented, and it is amazing to see the way he keeps the statistics during the game. He said Bailey is a professional through and through.
Bailey said he is working on sponsor renewals, and the number has increased. He said he is excited with the additions of Treasures by the Tracks and Old Clinton Barbecue.
“I appreciate all the community support,” he said.
Bailey said he was also impressed with the new coach and is anxious to see what he can do to.
“The Greyhounds have an experienced team,” he said. “They were knocked out of the playoffs late last year by good teams. No reason they can’t get to the championships.”
Bailey said a lot of the returning players were freshmen last year who played significant roles. He wants to see how they will contribute this year.
“They’re a strong team and expected to finish at the top of the region,” he said.
Bailey said he is as close as possible to being a Jones County native, having grown up in Warner Robins. He said the upgrades at Greyhound field, especially the new press box, are wonderful. The broadcaster met with the band recently and plans to start recognizing a band member of the week.
“I want to be a part of what is going on in Jones County,” he said.
Greene is a native Jones Countian, graduating from JCHS in 2006. He got the idea of broadcasting the games because, after moving to Atlanta, he missed keeping up with the Greyhounds.
In 2018 and he pitched the idea to another former Greyhound, Kyle Sears, who was on board almost immediately. They were able to hook up with Mixlr due to Sears’ connections through his job at Mercer University and were able to broadcast the away games that year.
Greene comes from a family that has a legacy in JCHS football, starting with his grandfather JoJo Greene, who played quarterback for the Greyhounds. The legacy was continued by his father, Al Greene, who played center and halfback. Adam is 5’5” and not physically suited to play football.
The broadcasts are a way for Adam to carry on the family’s involvement in Greyhound football.
The broadcasts were upgraded to Sportsmic in 2023 at the suggestion of Chastain, who was familiar with the company. That was the same year Sears had to opt out of the broadcasts due to his employment with another school system.
Sportsmic is owned by Greg Elrod, who grew up in Forsyth and loves football. Elrod started the company in 2011 when he realized more signal was needed for the Houston County broadcasts. He leased time from the iHeart Radio group the first four years.
The Sportsmic App was added in 2016. The owner said he started with Houston County, added Mary Persons, Mercer University and Jones County. Northside, Veterans, Perry and Warner Robins are also affiliate schools of Sportsmic.
Greene said the last 10 years have been an incredible experience.
“I had no idea the program would last 10 years. I love that people tune in from all over. We have Kema (Clark), who is a regular listener from Oregon, but we’ve had reports from people who have listened from all over the world,” he said. “We are able bring people back to Jones County for a couple of hours. We take a lot of pride in that.”
Bailey said he has met a lot of people who listen, which makes him feel like they are doing their jobs. He reminded Greene of one occasion he was on the other end of the broadcast.
“Adam was listening from the top of Space Mountain. That’s how passionate we are about what we do,” he said.
Bailey said having more road games this year means a better opportunity to pick up more listeners.
“Greyhounds players received three Division I scholarships last year. Who’s it going to be this year? We get to watch them grow and develop and see the cream rise to the top,” he said.
The date of the first scheduled broadcast is Aug. 15, which will be the game against Veterans from Freedom Field. The broadcasts begin 30 minutes before game time.
The Sportsmic app is available for download in the App Store, and the Jones County Greyhound broadcast is easily assessable. It is even possible to go back and listen to previous games. The live broadcasts are also available online at Sportsmic. com.
