Billy Wayne Taylor, Sr.

March 10, 1935 - July 14, 2024

Billy Wayne Taylor, Sr. of Macon, GA, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 14, 2024, following a brief illness. A graveside service was held at 10:00 am on Tuesday July 16, at Snow Hill Cemetery in Ivey, GA. Visitation followed the service.

Bill was the oldest son born to Willie T. Taylor and Madie Maupin Taylor on March 10, 1935, in Trenton, TN. He was a 1954 graduate of Milan High School in Milan, TN and a 1956 graduate of Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN.

Shortly after his college graduation, Bill moved to Macon, GA where he started a family.

After moving to Macon, Bill worked at Warner Robins Air Force Base prior to beginning a career as a claims adjuster with State Farm Insurance Company. He retired from State Farm in 1998. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Bill served at the Gordon Church of Christ in Gordon, GA for over 60 years.

A loving father and grandfather, Bill spent many years at Drake Field (Ocmulgee Little League) coaching and supporting his son’s baseball teams and on the golf course where he taught his grandson, Dalton, to play and love the game of golf.

Following his retirement, Bill spent several days a week on the golf course. Until his brief illness, Bill enjoyed spending Wednesday mornings at Lake Jonesco Golf Course playing golf with his friends.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Teena Taylor Cheek (Michael) of Calhoun, GA; his sons, Steve Taylor (Lorraine) of Gray, GA and Wayne Taylor (Christie) of Gordon, GA; his grandsons Dalton Taylor of Vero Beach, FL, Caleb Graham of Gray, GA and Erik McKee (Destiny) of Gray, GA; his granddaughters Anna Taylor and Leigh Ann Taylor of Paducah KY and Chelse Robinson (Jeremy) of Barnesville, GA; his nephew Tony Taylor (Janie) of Dickson, TN; his greatnephew Mason Taylor of Dickson, TN and seven great-grandchildren.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Willie T. and Madie Maupin Taylor and his brother, Jerry Stephen Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gordon Church of Christ, 102 Hardin Street, Gordon, GA 31031.
