Mr. Don Linton Carter, Jr., 62, of Jones County, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024.

Funeral services were at Elam Baptist Church, Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 2:00PM with the Reverend Adam Bray and the Reverend Gary Thomas officiating. The family greeted friends at Hart’s Mortuary Jones County Chapel, Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Burial at Elam Memorial Gardens followed the service.

Don was born in McRae, Georgia to the late Don and Emma Carter.

He was a 1979 graduate of Jones County High School where he played football for four years. Don met his future wife, Sherri, at a church softball game and they were married in 1985 at Elam Baptist Church. Don and Sherri began their family in Jones County, but lived in Fayetteville, Georgia for 26 years. The family returned to Jones County last year. Don fought a blood disorder for thirty years but lived his life to the fullest throughout.

He enjoyed woodworking with his mother-in-law.

Don was a fan of Georgia Bulldogs football and spent many years coaching football, baseball, and softball. He freely gave his time to Lisbon Baptist Church and Fayette County High School and Middle School, helping out anywhere he could and influencing hundreds of young kids and fellow churchgoers.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sherri Carter; daughter, Amber Conkle (Kraig) of Jones County; son, Don “Trey” Carter, III (Kalyn) of Suffolk, Virginia; sister, Lenn Fincher of Macon; brother, Joseph Carter of Gray, Georgia; grandchildren, Naomi, Jaida, Kody, Hadley, Colton, Mason, and Warren.
