Mrs. Jean Prater Metzger, age 88, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Keystone Heights, Florida where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 20, at the chapel of Couey Reece Stanley Funeral Home in Gordon, GA with Rev. Carl Metzger and Rev. Winston Vaughn officiating. The viewing was at 10 a.m. preceding the service.
Interment was in the Ramah Cemetery immediately following the service. Mrs. Metzger was born in Edison, Georgia on April 2, 1936, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Gordon. She lived in Jones County from 1961 until September of last year. Her employment experiences include Keebler, where she met her husband and worked for 28 years and the United States Postal Service with 20 years of service. She and her husband Willie also owned a poultry farm for 30 plus years.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Carl Metzger, Sr., her parents, Walter Prater and Marjorie Weathersby Prater Johnson as well as five siblings of which she was the eldest.
Mrs. Metzger is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Horton Jackson (Deuane) of Chatsworth, Georgia, and Barbara Horton Smith of Macon, Georgia, and her son, Rev.
William Carl Metzger, Jr. (Marsha) of Keystone Heights, Florida, 5 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren who produced much of her greatest joys.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Faith Baptist Church of Gordon, Georgia.
