An open letter to Gov. Kemp on future of Okefenokee

Body
Dear Governor: I know you have been busy signing or vetoing bills from the recent legislative session, so I have chosen not to disturb you. But now that you have all that behind you, I wonder if I might have a word with you? And that word is: Okefenokee.

The coffee

Body
In the little kitchen of my childhood home, there was coffee every morning. Always.

Sounds familiar

Body
In a doctor’s waiting room, I sat, without a phone or a newspaper to read. I was just a-sittin’, observing those scattered about.

Homage to an American hero

Body
I am doing something I rarely, if ever, have done. I am going to rerun a previous column verbatim. Hans Trupp, of St. Simons, died last week. I wrote the following about him two years ago and ask your forbearance in allowing me to present it to you again. Hans Trupp was and always will be an American hero. A true patriot. RIP, my friend.

Letters to the Editor

Body
The Lord truly blessed the Jones County ‘Word of God, Speak!’ Bible Reading, and the 2024 National Day of Prayer ministries. These were powerful times before the Lord, as hearts were changed, friends were made, prayers were offered as well as answered.

Extension Service

Body
Brennan Jackson County Extension/ANR Agent Camellias are one of my favorite ornamental bushes that produce impeccable blooms in the winter and attractive foliage year-round. These bushes are typically slow growing, but can grow up to 14 feet tall.

Bringing joy to others

Body
As the length of my time has stretched into many years, I realize the exceeding importance of giving moments of kindness. Take for instance, my friend, Edward.

Letters to the Editor

Body
The community of Jones County is urged to recognize the seriousness of the times in America and to make it a priority to participate in the local National Day of Prayer observance on Thursday, May 2. The prayer service will be at 6:30 in Carol’s Park in downtown Gray.

View from south of the border

Body
I am a proud American and southerner, as well as a student of history. Every sovereign nation needs to operate secure and controlled borders.
