Basketball coaches moving on

With Buck Harris and ChoRhonda Gwaltney-Harris at the helm, both the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds have forged into the state tournament and past at least the first round for the past two seasons.

Now, both coaches will be aiming to take their squads into the postseason elsewhere.

JCHS announced Thursday morning that both have taken the respective head coaching positions for the boys and girls basketball teams at Northside-Warner Robins.

Harris took the Greyhounds into the Sweet 16 round this past season, upsetting a region champion in the first round two years in a row. Jones County also enjoyed one of the greatest postseason runs in program history last year, advancing to the final four.

Gwaltney-Harris departs after guiding the Lady Greyhounds to the state quarterfinals this season where Jones County lost to Midtown one season after a berth in the second round.

Both coaches will have their share of familiar opponents on Green Street in Warner Robins, where county rivals include Warner Robins, Houston County, Perry, Veterans and, Houston County, all of whom JCHS regularly scheduled.

Their replacements will enter a region this fall rife with Henry County teams as the new JCHS region will be made up of eight teams from Henry County. That includes this year's boys runner-up Eagles Landing and Union Grove, ranked as one of the state's top girls teams for most of this season.
