GREYHOUND RECRUITS
One of the biggest senior-class recruiting targets for the Greyhounds has made his decision.
Jones County running back/defensive back Javious Bond put his college commitment in place last week, officially committing to continue his football career with The University of Memphis.
“I’m super excited to have a chance to go to the next level,” Bond said. “I’m glad to have the opportunity to show what I can do.”
Bond, whose pledge to the Tigers won’t be official until National Signing Day, received interest from programs such as Boston College, Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Utah and Virginia.
Bond is excited to have gotten his decision out of the way, doing so last week prior to the start of the regular season.
“That was the plan, so I could concentrate and start the season off right,” Bond said.
In the Tigers, Bond will be bound for one of the top teams that compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision that are not in a major conference. Part of the American Athletic Conference, Memphis’ conference includes East Carolina, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF. One of those teams, the Bearcats of Cincinnati, showed last year that an AAC team can forge its way to the College Football Playoff. Memphis, Bond’s future home, will have a similar opportunity going forward.
In 2019, Memphis was the highest- ranked team from outside a major conference and earned a berth in the Cotton Bowl.
