Rookie softball team also bound for state
Little League District Tournament play began last week for local all-star teams, and two local squads will be moving on to the state tournament.
Leading the pack was Jones County’s JC Purple Coach Pitch Baseball All Stars, winning their bracket to move on to this weekend’s state tournament at East Marietta. They began their tournament, held close to home at the Highway 18 Recreation Complex, with a 14-5 victory against Warner Robins American before a 13-3 win over Vine Ingle advanced them to the tournament championship game.
The JC Gold Baseball Coach Pitch All Stars fell 11-3 to WRALL before a tough 18-17 loss to Dudley.
The Rookie Softball All Stars will play in the state tournament July 16-18 at Warner Robins after rallying back to advance to the finals. After a 9-7 loss to Warner Robins American, wins of 10-7 and 12-8 against Western Little League and Dudley kept Jones County alive, earning them a state tourney berth.
In softball coach pitch, Jones County lost 22-21 to Dudley in the semifinal round. That followed a 15-10 win against Western and 21-19 against Vine Ingle to stay alive after a tournament-opening loss.
Other action saw the Sandlot Baseball All Stars beat Vine Ingle 8-6, lose 15-0 to Warner Robins ad lose 12-6 to Vine Ingle with the Rookie Baseball All Stars losing 16-1 to Dudley and 10-8 to Vine Ingle.
